The first step in becoming a HSCO volunteer is to fill out a Volunteer Application and bring it to the Humane Society Shelter located at 61170 SE 27th St. in Bend. The Volunteer Coordinator will call you to set up a mandatory volunteer orientation. Once you have completed the orientation you can begin your volunteer experience with the HSCO. Some volunteer opportunities may require additional training. Please see the Volunteer Orientation & Training section for more information.
We request a commitment of a minimum of 5 hours a month for three months if you are interested in volunteering. Community Service hours for school or other organizations require a 10 hour minimum commitment.
While we encourage volunteers of all ages to join us, we do have a minimum age requirement of 9 years old. The Youth Volunteer Program is available to youth 9 years of age to 15 years old and are required to be accompanied by an adult at all times during all volunteer activities. Youth volunteers and their adult supervision must complete applications and go through the mandatory volunteer orientation.
Please do not bring guests (family members, friends, etc.) with you when volunteering. They will be unable to handle the animals or assist you. If your guests are interested in volunteering please have them contact the Volunteer Coordinator, 541-382-3537.
