Field Trip Program

HSCO’s Pawsitive Adventures program gives shelter dogs a much-needed break from the kennel while helping our community connect with adoptable pets in a meaningful way.
Take a shelter dog out for the day for an adventurous hike, a mellow walk in the park, or a snuggle party at your home with our Doggy Day Out program! Your time spent with our shelter dogs helps reduce their stress, provide enrichment, and show our dogs what life outside the shelter can be like. Even better? You get to spend time with a great dog along the way.
Why Pawsitive Adventures Matter

Pawsitive Adventures Help Dogs:
- Reduce stress and anxiety from the kennel environment
- Show their true personality outside the shelter
- Experience everyday activities like car rides and walks
- Build confidence and positive associations with people
- Gain valuable insights that help us match them with the right adopter
How It Works
Participating is easy!
1. Register & Tell Us Your Preferences >>
Complete the Registration & Matchmaking Form to let us know what type of dogs you'd enjoy spending time with.
2. Pick Up Your Adventure Buddy >>
Arrive at HSCO at your scheduled time with a valid driver’s license and check in with our front desk team. We’ll introduce you to your adventure buddy and review everything you need to know. HSCO will provide everything you need for your outing, including a leash, supplies, and helpful tips.
3. Enjoy Your Adventure >>
Take your dog on a fun outing. Some popular adventures include:
- Walks along the river or local trails
- Relaxing at home with a movie and cuddles
- Visiting a dog-friendly restaurant patio
- Treating your pup to a "Pup Cup"
4. Share Your Experience >>
When you return, fill out a short report card and upload photos from your adventure. Your observations help our team learn more about each dog.
If you share photos or videos on social media, be sure to tag HSCO so we can celebrate your adventure!
