Rehoming
Your Pet

Rehoming a pet is never an easy decision. The Humane Society of Central Oregon is committed to being a resource for our community.

At this time, HSCO has paused new intakes from our community.
Our kennels are at more than double capacity after taking in more than 50 animals from recent neglect cases. To ensure every animal already in our care receives the attention and medical support they need, we must temporarily suspend most owner surrenders. We will continue to evaluate our capacity each week, and intake will reopen as soon as possible.

Other Options to Consider

Behavior Resources

GoodPup Training
:
Behavior is one of the top reasons dogs are surrendered to shelters like HSCO. Before rehoming, we encourage you to explore support such as GoodPup, which offers affordable 1-1 training, at home and on your schedule, with trainers ready to help 24/7!  Click here
Home To Home
We strongly encourage families to usepe you will first consider using Home To Home to rehome your pet. Home To Home is a free website that allows you to list your pet and directly participate in the rehoming process – which is not possible after surrendering your pet to our shelter. Often this is the least stressful option for your family and your pet and it can help save precious shelter resources! If you are not successful rehoming your animal yourself, you can always reach out to us at the shelter to schedule an appointment.

Emergency Surrenders
:
HSCO will always be here for community members experiencing crisis and/or emergency. Emergency and same day intakes will be considered on a case-by-case basis. If possible, please submit an intake request form to expedite intake. Call the shelter at 541-382-3537 ext. 0 for immediate assistance.

Don't forget! Post your pet on Home To Home while you are awaiting your intake appointment.

We rehome 750+ cats, 250+ dogs, and 180+ small animals per year.
